Updated Neurological Listings Change Evaluation of Epilepsy, Cerebral Palsy, and Other Impairments

SSA has issued revised listings for Neurological Disorders for adults and children (Listings 11.00 and 111.00), and made minor corresponding changes to the musculoskeletal system (adult and children) and mental disorders (adult only) listings. In conjunction with the publication of the new listings, SSA has rescinded SSR 87-6, "The Role of Prescribed Treatment in the Evaluation of Epilepsy" because relevant parts are now incorporated into this listing.

There listings are effective for cases filed or pending on or after September 29, 2016. This is the first comprehensive review of the neurological listings since 1985, though minor changes have been made over the years. The final listings include numerous changes from both the previous listings and from the proposed listings; SSA accepted some of the recommendations made in comments to the proposed listings.
